Bihar Sustainable Livelihood Development Project

Currently working in Pandaul block of Madhubani district covering 19 panchayats and 4000 families. This project aims for increasing source of income by improved livestock management and improved agriculture practices. For this we have identified the most vulnerable section of the society where there is no connectivity of government schemes and resources. Keeping all this in mind we have done regular meeting with them and formed self help groups i.e. 185 in number. We have formed 50 OGs(Original Groups) and POG(Passing over the gift). In this project we believe in developing sense of responsibility, caring and sharing within our community. We encourage community to take loan from bank, buying goat, formation of goat shed, proper nutrition leading to increase in better breed and improving source of income. The groups are given various training through which their knowledge is enhanced as such SHG management, Cornerstone training, Improved animal management and Kitchen garden. Through Improved animal management the community is asked to make goat shed and its impact on goat health and their nutrition. The groups are also being given training and inputs on practicing organic farming with least resources which leads to better production. By taking training on kitchen garden the community is told about the benefits and how it can help in consuming nutritious food intake and their dependency on market for daily needs. All the SHGs have opened their bank account and do their monthly saving and also practice interloaning within their groups. We have been able to develop entrepreneur who have earlier started goat rearing as means of livelihood but are now taking this business a level up in kamlabari village of Biraul panchayat. For treatment of goat within the community there is appointment of CAVE (Community Agro-vet Veternary Entrepreneur) who is selected and given training on animal related diseases and their treatment. She is responsible for deworming, vaccination and PPR for goats.
